The lyrical ambiguity and repetition is both purposeful and imperative when considering the themes and emotions of this song. It this song about getting closer? Or is this song about how we pull away when we get closer to someone? Does the speaker hold a grudge? Or does the speaker want to remind someone what they mean to them? Is the speaker protecting or neglecting a a part of themselves when he says, "There's one thing you'll never get?"
